Spotify announced its bundle feature with Hulu back in March 2019. The bundle offers a discounted rate for both services. It’s now only available for Spotify Premium subscribers with a student membership.
In its 2018 financial report, Spotify announced that it had reached 170 million monthly active listeners and 75 million Premium users. The company stated that the student-centered bundle with Hulu was a contributing factor in subscriber growth and retention. Currently, Spotify is the only company with a partnership of this kind.
What’s included in the Spotify Hulu bundle?
The bundle includes access to Spotify, Hulu and Showtime. There’s no additional cost for the latter two options. Outside of the add-on, the student plan is identical to Spotify’s standard Premium service. All of its features are available, including downloads, podcasts, offline usage, real-time playlist collaboration and unlimited streaming.
Only those attending a college or university can sign up for the Premium Student subscription.
Spotify offers students a 90-day free trial. Afterward, students will pay $4.99/mo. for Spotify, Hulu and Showtime. How much do you save with the bundle? Spotify Premium normally costs $9.99/mo, the ad-supported version of Hulu is $5.99/mo and an individual Showtime subscription is $10.99/mo. So, you’re saving about $22/mo. by combining the three services.
How to get the Spotify Hulu student deal
To qualify for this Spotify Hulu offer, you have to be a student. A qualifying student is someone attending an accredited college or university. You must verify your student status through SheerID. Your subscription lasts one year at a time. Therefore, you’ll have to apply for renewal every 12 months.
For students who already have a Spotify account
Here is a step-by-step process for how to get Hulu free with your existing Spotify Premium for Students account:
- Apply for the student discount at www.spotify.com/student.
- Go to Sheer ID and verify your student status.
- Once your verification is complete, you can open your Spotify account.
- Go to the ‘Your Services’ section of your user account and activate or create your Hulu account.
- You’ve completed the process.
For students who already have a Hulu account
Follow these steps to get Hulu free with your existing account:
- Sign up for a Spotify Student Premium account.
- Agree to switch your Hulu billing when you sign up for your Spotify Student Premium account.
- You’ve completed the process.
For students who don’t have either a Spotify or Hulu account
To open a new account and get the Spotify Hulu deal, here’s what you do:
- Apply for the Student Discount at www.spotify.com/student.
- Verify your student status through Sheer ID.
- Once verification is complete, open your Spotify account.
- Go to the ‘Your Services’ section of your user account and activate or create your Hulu account.
- You’ve completed the process.
For students who already have Showtime or a Spotify free account
If you’re a student and have Showtime or a Spotify free account, do this:
- Cancel your existing Showtime subscription.
- Confirm that your Showtime subscription has expired.
- Open a Spotify account.
- Go to the ‘Your Services’ section of your user account and activate or create a Showtime account.
- You’ve completed the process.
If you currently have a Spotify free account, do this to score the bundle:
- Select an upgrade.
- Set up your billing method.
- Choose the student plan.
- Select the Spotify Hulu bundle.
- Verify your student status.
- Activate Hulu and Showtime as instructed.
What happens to your Spotify Hulu bundle when you graduate?
Your Spotify Hulu bundle is valid for up to 12 months from the date you open your account. Once the discount expires, you’ll have to complete the verification process again. You’re allowed to renew your account for four years.
After you graduate, your Spotify Hulu bundle will automatically continue at the standard Spotify Premium rate of $9.99/mo. Or, you may cancel your Spotify subscription.
