Amazon Prime subscribers looking for a new show to binge would definitely do well to check out Catastrophe. The British sitcom is available exclusively on Amazon Prime here in the States, and as far as selling points go, its 100% Fresh Rotten Tomatoes rating certainly doesn’t hurt. Moreover, this is a great time to dive give Catastrophe a look-see, as Amazon has just announced an April return date for the show’s third season.
Catastrophe stars Rob Delaney and Sharon Horgan as Rob and Sharon, an odd-couple duo raising a child under unusual circumstances. Namely, the two hooked up while American Rob was visiting Sharon’s native Ireland on business, and, lo and behold, Sharon soon found herself great with child. In spite of the international difficulties, Sharon tells Rob he’s soon to be a father, and the pair decide to make a go of raising the kid together. Needless to say, there are complications.
Amazon has released a cute little teaser featuring Delaney and Horgan taking a page from The Dating Game. The video also confirms that season three will be hitting Amazon Prime on April 28.
If you needed more reasons to give Catastrophe a chance (100% Fresh, for crying out loud!), there are plenty. The show was nominated for a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, as well as for a 2016 BAFTA Award. Hell, it was even nominated for a damn Peabody.
Clearly, critics aren’t the only ones who love Catastrophe. The Channel 4 series is already renewed for a fourth season before its third season has even debuted on this side of the Pond, so fans can look forward to at least another year of fun with Rob, Sharon, and offspring. (Not the band, that’d be weird.)
One sad note: the Catastrophe cast also included Carrie Fisher as Rob’s mother. Fisher passed away on December 27, 2016, so her death will likely have to be addressed on the show at some point. It’s unclear whether the production schedule will allow that moment to be worked into season three or if it’ll have to wait until season four.
