Amazon plans to double its spending this fall on some of its hit original series, potentially putting some pressure on Netflix to also up its game.
The New York Post reports that Amazon executives “let their big-budget plans slip” during a Thursday conference call with analysts. There were no exact dollar amounts, but an executive said spending on media content would nearly double in the second half of this year.

Amazon has had some winners when it comes to original content, including “Transparent” and “High Castle.” Its also producing new episodes of “Mozart in the Jungle” and “Catastrophe.”
Amazon had a strong second quarter, with revenue jumping 31 percent. Of course, a bulk of Amazon’s revenue comes from its massive online retail store.
Netflix, on the other hand, had a disappointing quarter, missing the mark on subscriber growth.
