The Amazon Video series Man in the High Castle broke records for Prime Video, quickly becoming the most viewed show on the service, setting the mark for the biggest launch month, and racking up two Emmy awards along the way.
And now, Amazon has signed on for a new show about the author whose books inspired the series.
The sci-fi series Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams, starring Bryan Cranston of Breaking Bad fame for one episode, will also air on UK Channel 4. The show will feature adaptations of the works of Phil K. Dick, who inspired sci-fi hits like Blade Runner, Total Recall, and Minority Report in addition to Man in the High Castle.
Each episode will have a show adapted by a team of both British and American writers.
In addition to appearing in one episode, Bryan Cranston will also serve as the show’s executive producer.
Similar to Netflix hit Black Mirror, each episode in the series will stand alone and tell its own story. The 10 episode anthology will feature different characters and a different story each time.
“Philip K Dick’s short stories have shaped iconic Hollywood films,” said Channel 4 chief creative officer, Jay Hunt. “Electric Dreams: The World of Philip K Dick will adapt and modernize his singular vision for a TV audience. We are thrilled to be partnering with the talented team at Sony Pictures Television on an anthology series that brings together global stars of the calibre of Bryan Cranston and Ronald D Moore.”
The show had been in the works at AMC, but they ultimately decided not to take on the show, leaving the door open for Amazon. Considering the service was already the home of MitHC, it was a natural fit, and the service surely hopes to bring some High Castle fans over to this new show.
“This is an electric dream come true,” Cranston said recently. “We are so thrilled to be able to explore and expand upon the evergreen themes found in the incredible work of this literary master.”
