‘Bill Nye Saves The World’ Drops New Trailer, Sets Earth Day Release Date

Bill Nye has announced that his new science-centric Netflix original series Bill Nye Saves The World has finally set a release date. And appropriately enough, it’s Earth Day.

The series marks Nye’s return to television after his long running PBS show Bill Nye the Science Guy made him a household name and paved the way for media appearances over the next two decades.

Science Guy was a childhood staple for many 80s and 90s kids, and Netflix has shown no hesitation to try to cash in on nostalgia. But compared to other shows like Fuller House where nostalgia was the driving factor, Nye says he hopes to shed light on important issues we’re facing today, not just remind people of the work he did 20 years ago.

In the new trailer for Bill Nye Saves The World (which you can watch below), the scientist says he’ll tackle a number of topics like alternative medicine, GMOs, technology, sex, and global warming, refuting myths and common misconceptions about each with a science and “fact based” (Nye’s words) approach. The show will incorporate different celebrities (like Zach Braff, Tim Gunn, Wil Wheaton, and Joel McHale) along the way to help Nye make his points.

“In each episode,” reads the official description, “Bill Nye will tackle a topic from a scientific point of view, dispelling myths, and refuting anti-scientific claims that may be espoused by politicians, religious leaders or titans of industry.”

Nye has said he’s especially excited about the global warming episode, something he’s become a very vocal advocate about in recent years. Given the current political climate in America, with many people denying even the existence of (much less the impact of) global warming, this is one to look forward to.

If there’s one downside to this, it’s that we’re only getting six episodes of Bill Nye Saves The World for the first season.
