With an enormous budget and an impressive track record of critically-acclaimed original series, Netflix is able to attract some of the best talent in the industry. From a wide-ranging list of the funniest comedians on the market to some of the brightest creative minds in filmmaking, the big red streaming service has become one of the hottest studios in the world. Now, a new series on Netflix will see the return to television of one of Hollywood’s most legendary performers: Carol Burnett.
The series will be called A Little Help with Carol Burnett and will be an unscripted talk show in which Burnett interviews children aged four to eight in front of a live audience. Burnett will ask the children questions about a wide range of topics ripped from the day’s news headlines or current events while not shying away from controversial subjects. The thirty-minute episodes will delve into topics usually reserved for adults, gaining insights from the sometimes brutally honest opinions children can offer.
Carol Burnett’s career spans more than five decades. The iconic Carol Burnett Show ran from 1967 to 1978, earning six Emmy and 22 nominations along the way, including three wins for Best Variety-Comedy series. Every season of the series was nominated for the award. After the series, Burnett has kept acting, starring in dozens of films and television series including the 1982 film adaptation of Annie directed by John Huston.
Netflix’s Vice President of Content Acquisition, Bela Bajaria, says Netflix executives are honored to bring such a legendary talent into the streaming world:
We’re thrilled Carol is bringing her unique sensibilities to Netflix. Carol is truly a legend in the entertainment industry with unprecedented success and fandom across TV, film and the stage, and we are both honored and excited to work with her.
The twelve-episode first season ofA Little Help with Carol Burnett will debut exclusively on Netflix sometime in 2018.
