Classic MTV, Comedy Central, BET, and Nickelodeon Shows Are Coming to Pluto TV

Pluto TV is quickly establishing itself as a rising star in the crowded, competitive streaming market. Earlier this year, mass media conglomerate Viacom purchased Pluto TV for $340, a move which seemed to suggest that big things would soon be coming to the free streaming television site. Those big things are finally coming, as Viacom and Pluto TV have announced that classic shows from some of Viacom’s most iconic channels will soon come to Pluto TV – for free.

Viacom has confirmed that Pluto TV will launch new channels carrying beloved and nostalgic programs from flagship channels like MTV, Nickelodeon, BET, and Comedy Central. As part of the roll-out of these new additions, Pluto TV will also launch limited-time “pop up” channels like “The Hills” to promote new linear channels for the new content.

Pluto TV and Viacom have been promoting these new channels and series in a massive advertising push the two have been on lately. Pluto TV is completely ad-supported, so the future of the free streaming service depends entirely on collaboration with advertisers. Since Viacom acquired Pluto TV earlier this year, the streaming service has grown by 3 million unique active monthly users.

If you’re unfamiliar with Pluto TV, it’s objectively a great free television replacement. Pluto offers 100 live linear channels offering content from comedy to sports to classic cult films. Pluto TV can be watched over a web browser but is also available as a standalone app on Mac and PCs computers, many smart TV models, Apple TV, Android TV, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast, Roku, iOS and Android mobile devices, and even PlayStation consoles.
