David Letterman is Returning to Television with New Netflix Series

David Letterman, one of television’s most iconic personalities, is returning to television with an all-new series on Netflix. The legendary host of CBS’s The Late Show has announced a new project with the streaming giant which will be in the form of Letterman interviewing extraordinary people – not just celebrities and political figures, but a wide range of noteworthy individuals. Aside from the long form in-studio interviews, Letterman will film short segments in various locations allowing Letterman to explore topics which pique his curiosity.

Ted Sarandos, visionary Chief Content Officer at Netflix, issued a statement admitting his excitement to have even met such a television legend, much less be working with him. “Just meeting David Letterman was a thrill; imagine how exciting it is for me to announce that we will be working together,” Sarandos says, “David Letterman is a true television icon, and I can’t wait to see him out in the wild, out from behind the desk and interviewing the people he finds most interesting.”

True to his deadpan comedy style, Letterman issued a statement expressing his gratitude for being given the opportunity to work with the streaming leader, while also nodding at his post-retirement boredom:

I feel excited and lucky to be working on this project for Netflix. Here’s what I have learned, if you retire to spend more time with your family, check with your family first. Thanks for watching, drive safely.

David Letterman remains one of the most celebrated and recognized personalities in television history. Letterman boasts 52 total Emmy Award nominations, ten of which were wins. Letterman is also a two-time winner of the prestigious Peabody Award, has been honored by the Kennedy Center, and is set to receive the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor later this year.

The six-episode first season of Letterman’s yet-to-be-named series will debut on Netflix in 2018.

No word yet if he’s going to shave that heinous beard.
