Everyone has a streaming service these days. In the world of entertainment, if you don’t have a streaming service, you’re getting left behind. More and more households are cutting cable and opting for streaming, and the big networks, studios, and sports leagues are taking notice. Even news stations are jumping into the streaming world, rolling out 24/7 news streams and even original programming designed exclusively for streaming. The latest big news in the news streaming world broke today with the announcement that Fox News will be debuting new long-form programs for their new Fox Nation streaming service. What will this mean for the news world?
For one, it means Fox News will extend its already extensive market presence into the ever-expanding streaming world. Fox Nation began in 2009 as an op-ed website but announced earlier this year that the site would transition to a fully-featured streaming service offering alternative programming separate from the Fox News Channel.
Fox News calls Fox Nation “a forum for Americans to speak out on important and controversial issues, and to act on their beliefs and values — while always upholding the traditional American ideals of free speech, fair play, and tolerance.” The new series being developed for the streaming service include long-form news specials and documentaries which feature investigative journalism and specials from some of the most iconic personalities in American politics and culture.
Some of the series planned for Fox Nation include Borked, a look into Judge Robert Bork and his unsuccessful nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court, Hannity’s America: The Judge Clarence Thomas Story, and What Made America Great hosted by Brian Kilmeade. Robert Fuhrman, the LAPD detective who gained notoriety for lying about his use of racial slurs during the O.J. Simpson trial, will host The Fuhrman Diaries, a true-crime series featuring the host’s personal perspective on famous criminal cases.
Fox Nation hasn’t yet set a launch date or cost, but with the announcement of these series it’s likely more details will be unveiled soon.
