Half of all U.S. homes use a streaming service, study finds

No surprise here: half of all U.S. households use some sort of streaming television service, according to a new Nielsen Total Audience Report.

“While DVR penetration has plateaued, SVOD (streaming video on demand) penetration is growing,” the report said.

The survey found that about 72 percent of homes have either a DVR or a streaming service. While it doesn’t specifically speak to the ratio of on-demand versus live, linear content, it is showing a shift from the latter.

Phys.org reports that Netflix has about 45.7 million U.S. subscribers. Hulu has about 12 million.
