HBO Max will launch with 14 anime titles, more on the way

Just before their upcoming launch, HBO Max has staked a spot in the streaming anime war. The company announced this week that they would carry 17 different anime titles at debut thanks to a partnership with Crunchyroll, one of the top destinations in the world for anime.

A slew of titles are headed to the streaming platform, including:

  • Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
  • Re:ZERO – Starting Life in Another World)
  • Keep Your Hands off Eizouken
  • In/Spectre
  • Rurouni Kenshin
  • KONOSUBA – God’s Blessing on this Wonderful World!
  • Bungo Stray Dogs
  • Berserk
  • Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress
  • Kill la Kill
  • Your Lie in April
  • Kiznaiver
  • chwarzes Marken
  • 91 Days
  • The Testament of Sister New Devil
  • Rokka -Braves of the Six Flowers

Anime fans will notice there’s a fair amount of variety there, from Shonen to drama and romance with some classic hits included too. That’s also a pretty significant list considering several of those titles were former Netflix exclusive and one is a Crynchyroll original. When you add in the fact that HBO Max also has the entire Studio Ghibli catalog, it’s clear they’re focusing hard on Japanese content but making an effort to include top-notch storytelling.

HBO Max has a price tag of $14.99 a month and is set to launch May 27.
