The Johnny Carson Show headed for free streaming thanks to Shout! Factory

The man that paved the way for every late-night host from Fallon to O’Brien to Kimmel is headed to your streaming device. With over 30 years and an astounding 5,000+ episodes to his credit, Johnny Carson is synonymous with the modern talk now. And thanks to Shout Factory, you have the chance to watch for free.

Shout! announced this week via a YouTube trailer that they had worked with Carson Entertainment Group to the show to their free streaming platform, which is available Amazon Fire, Roku, Apple TV, and Android devices as well as the Shout! Factory official site and Shout! channels on Amazon Prime, Tubi, and Roku.

Streaming begins on April 1, 2020.

Unfortunately, it’s not the entire catalog that’s streaming. Instead, the episodes are being placed into “best of” groups like: The Best of Carnac the Magnificent, The Best of George Carlin, and Animal Antics with Joan Embery and Jim Fowler. Over the next months, new categories will be added like Comic Legends of the 60s (sure to star the likes of Bob Newhart, Mel Brooks, and Carl Reiner) and Hollywood Icons of the 70s (where you can expect plenty of Burt Reynolds and Goldie Hawn).

Carson was one of the first talk show hosts to feature young comedians on his show, and many stars like David Letterman, Roseanne Barr, Ellen DeGeneres, Louie Anderson, Joan Rivers, and Drew Carey all credit him with launching their careers.

Jeff Sotzing, President of Carson Entertainment Group, said he hoped this agreement takes Carson to new audiences. “As someone who has been a part of The Tonight Show family for my entire life, it’s incredible to see new generations discover and embrace the show,” he said. “Now, with the show on streaming platforms for the first time, the series will be accessible to new audiences and will be curated like never before.
