MTV, Comedy Central coming to Sling TV as part of Viacom deal

Just when it looked like Dish Network was going to lose Comedy Central, BET and MTV, among other popular cable channels, the pay TV provider worked out a deal with Viacom to keep the channels and bring them to Dish’s growing streaming service Sling TV.

According to a message from Viacom, reported by Techcrunch, several Viacom channels would be available on Sling in the coming months.

While MTV and Comedy Central will be available on Sling (review), some of Viacom’s bigger channels — Nickelodeon, VH1, CMT and TV Land — aren’t part of the deal. Those stations will remain on Dish Network’s satellite service.

The deal, announced Friday, April 22, comes on the heels of a major announcement by Sling that allows a multi-stream service and Fox Network channels.

According to a Wall Street Journal report, Viacom is going to receive a single-digit percentage increase in its affiliate fees from Dish as part of the five-year contract.
