Netflix surprised the television world last year with the release of its retro-styled science-fiction/horror series Stranger Things. The series is unlike anything else on television, and succeeds at re-instilling the childhood wonder and sense of adventure that ran throughout so many 1980s sci-fi and horror classics. Stranger Things was such a hit for Netflix that the series was singularly responsible for massive boost in subscriptions for the streaming service. Now, it looks like Netflix is once again poised to print money thanks to the eagerly-awaited season two of Stranger Things which has finally gotten a release date: October 27th.
The announcement of the date was made by the Stranger Things official Twitter account @Stranger_Things, which posted a short teaser trailer yesterday announcing the date. The teaser opens with the text “1984 ONLY GETS STRANGER” emblazoned in the iconic glowing red typeface used in the Stranger Things opening credits, marking that the new season will take place one year after the first. As the text fades, the trailer shows the series’ four child protagonists on their trusty bikes, riding headfirst into an eerie red electrical storm past a “Welcome to Hawkins” road sign. The trailer is accompanied by the tweet “Some doors can’t be closed. #StrangerThings2 arrives on October 27.”
The new teaser is only the latest in what has become an eerie red electrical storm of publicity surrounding the new season of Stranger Things. Netflix blew up the internet last September with the release of the season two teaser trailer for the breakout hit series. The trailer shows the second season to be even bigger than the last season, hinting at epically-large monsters and a scale of horror and adventure the series hasn’t yet seen.
Netflix’s Stranger Things will return with its second season on October 27th, just in time for Halloween. Invest in Eleven costumes.
