Netflix Confirms More Episodes of ‘Making A Murderer’ Are On The Way

Rumors about the return of the super popular Netflix docu-drama Making A Murderer have been swirling for a while, and we finally have some solid answers – more shows are on the way.

While many people speculated Netflix might create a new series with another murder case, it looks like the upcoming episodes will center around the same story of Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey.

Speaking to USA Today, Netflix’s VP of Original Content Cindy Holland said, “The story is still ongoing, so you will see new episodes coming sometime this year as this story continues to unfold. We don’t know when for sure new episodes will be coming.”

If you missed all the hype the first time around, the series centered around a real life murder story – a man named Stephen Avery who spent 18 years in prison for a rape that he didn’t commit. He was actually found innocent once new DNA evidence emerged, and after his name was cleared, he sued the state of Wisconsin.

Shortly after, Avery and his nephew were convicted for the murder of a woman named Teresa Halbach in 2005. Halbach was last seen on their property, and evidence suggested the men had something to do with her disappearance. Her remains were found in a pit behind the residence, and Avery’s nephew admitted to police that he raped Halbach before murdering her.

The documentary considers the possibility though, that wasn’t true – that Avery’s nephew was coerced into making that statement and that there are plenty of holes in the evidence. The show actually led to Avery’s release.

It’s not clear when new episodes of Making A Murder will be released, but it does look like there’s more to this story. For now, even Netflix employees don’t know what’s happening. Original Content VP Cindy Holland said the filmmakers are “shooting regularly” in Manitowoc, and Netflix is “deferring to them on when it will be ready.”
