The Sundance Film Festival kicks off this week, and Netflix just released the first trailer for one of the films set to premier there – The Discovery.
The film takes a look at what would happen if existence of an afterlife were proven – what would people do to get there sooner, and what happens to the people who choose to stay? The trailer is fairly creepy, backed by a slowed, garbled version of Roy Orbison’s hit “Only the Lonely.” The only spoken words in the trailer are, “People are just gonna keep killing themselves.”
Robert Redford stars as a physicist who confirms there is an afterlife, which leads to a rash of suicides. Jason Segel plays Redford’s son, and Rooney Mara plays a love interest for Will.
The Discovery will make its world premiere at Sundance, and will be released on Netflix on March 31.
