Netflix Nabs Spike Lee To Direct 10 Episode “She’s Gotta Have It” Series

Netflix is now a Spike Lee joint, as the streaming service has signed on the famed director to head an original series based on Lee’s 1986 film She’s Gotta Have It.

The show (like the film) will center on Nola Darling, a young Brooklyn artist trying to find herself while divide time between friends, work, and three boyfriends. Not much cat information is available, but we do know that Anthony Ramos, of smash Broadway musical Hamilton fame, will play a lead.

Lee created the series and will direct every episode along with his wife. The first season will be 10 episodes long.

TV adaptations of hit movies seem to be a popular trend recently, with remakes of Lethal Weapon, Training Day, The Exorcist, and Taken hitting broadcast TV this fall. Netflix has even done a few of their own with remakes of Wet Hot American Summer and Dear White People.

Netflix is no stranger to getting high profile directors for their TV shows. David Fincher directed the first two episodes of House of Cards and is now an executive producer, Judd Apatow directed the romantic comedy/drama Love and the Wachowskis made the sci-fi drama Sense8.

She’s Gotta Have It is Lee’s first attempt at a television series.
