Netflix scored a big hit when it picked up Black Mirror for a third season. The British dystopian/science fiction series is unlike anything else on television, and Netflix helped bring the series to a new global audience. The third season featured roles from many Hollywood A-listers including Bryce Dallas Howard and received three Emmy Award nominations including an Outstanding TV Movie Award nomination for the episode “San Junipero” and an Outstanding Cinematography Award nomination for “Nosedive.” Now that the third season has received such critical acclaim, expectations are high for the fourth season. Netflix kicked those expectations up another notch this week with the release of a teaser trailer for the upcoming fourth season of Black Mirror which includes episode titles.
The teaser trailer only offers a brief glimpse of each episode in the form of a second or two of footage accompanied by each episode title. An ominous, bass-heavy score and unnerving scenes of rogue robots, deep space terror, and medical experimentation hint that season four will be just as terrifying and disturbing as previous seasons.
Actors and actresses included in the teaser include Jesse Plemons (Fargo), Rosemarie Dewitt (La La Land), Maxine Peake (The Theory Of Everything), Douglas Hodge (The Night Manager), Andrea Riseborough (Birdman), and Georgina Campbell (Broadchurch). Series creator and writer Charlie Brooker is returning for the fourth season, writing every episode. Hollywood legend Jodie Foster also returns, directing the episode “Arkangel” starring Rosemarie Dewitt.
Black Mirror has proved to be both an audience favorite and a hit with critics. The series boasts an impressive 100% ‘fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a Metacritic rating of 82 based on 23 critical reviews. The series has been praised for its surreal, dystopian take on modern day trends, exposing the horrible truths of society’s accepted behaviors and beliefs. The second-season episode “The Waldo Moment,” which debuted in February 2013, has even been cited as an early warning for the political chaos many Western countries are now facing.
The six-episode fourth season of Black Mirror does not yet have a release date, but Netflix assures it’s coming soon.
