Netflix’s ‘The Crown’ Will Introduce Princess Diana – And Here’s When

Ever since The Crown debuted on Netflix, fans have been wondering when Princess Diana would appear (considering the show is based on the current royal family). Now, we have an answer.

The show’s first season is set in roughly the early 1950s, so many fans thought it would be a good 4 or 5 seasons before they got around to any juicy Diana and Charles drama. But the show’s creator and writer Peter Morgan has announced that it will be a little sooner than that.

Princess Diana will make her way on to The Crown some time by the end of the third season, Morgan said in an interview with People. He added that season 4 and 5 would feature her “heavily” as one of the main characters. To compensate for the jump in time to get to that point, all other major roles will be recast with older actors.

As one of the most beloved and most photographed royal family members in some time, it makes sense that fans are excited to see Diane on the show. Known as “The People’s Princess,” her wedding was seen by an estimated 750 million people across the globe.

Reviews have said The Crown is historically accurate, but clearly attempts to pain the monarchy in a good light, so it will be interesting to see how the show handles her ill-fated marriage and her death.

Season 2 of The Crown is expected to debut some time in late 2017.
