Orange Is The New Black Season 5 Gets June Release Date 5 In New Trailer

Good news, Orange Is The New Black fans – we know when we’ll be returning to Litchfield to check in on Daya, CO Humphrey and the gang. Bad news, it’ll be a short stay. Netflix revealed this week that the fifth season of hit show Orange Is the New Black will be released June 9, 2017. But the 13 episode season takes place over only 3 days.

Of course, it’s not going to be a normal three days. When we last left Litchfield, an uprising was taking place with Daya pointing a gun at a corrections officer that had been abusing inmates all season long. Does she actually shoot? We’ll find out soon enough.

The new teaser trailer for the season is only 15 seconds long, but it packs a punch. It shows various prisoners in a range of emotions, including shock and fear, and ends where season 4 left off – with Daya holding the gun that initiates a prison-wide riot. Show star Danielle Brooks recently told E!, “It [season 5] will be very detailed, very intense, and you better get ready. Get your popcorn, your tissues, everything.”

*SPOILER ALERT* Season 5 comes after last season saw the death of fan-favorite prisoner Poussey during a protest. At attempted cover up leaves the prisoners enraged, bringing us to the climactic uprising at close of season 4. “It’s war,” Brooks told Hollywood Reporter. “Taystee has nothing to lose, she’s lost everything that she cared so deeply about. It’s time to fight.”

The potential rebellion rising in the prison is likely why we’re only going to see less than 72 hours of “prison time” next season. The show has already been renewed for seasons 6 and 7, so we know this season won’t be the last in the prison’s story. But if early indications are true, it looks like this could be the best season yet.
