Amazon announced today that two new animated shows aimed at kids will be coming to their streaming video service soon – one based on a popular book series, one a popular video game series.
Pete the Cat will be based on the award winning book series of the same name by writer and illustrator James Dean. More than 34 Pete the Cat books have been published to date. The book has been translated into over a dozen languages and won 18 different literacy awards. The books follow an always singing, always groovy cat as he faces various (small) troubles in his life, but never loses his cool. The new animated series will actually be developed by Jeff Marsh, the mind behind Phineas and Ferb. The first season of Pete the Cat on Amazon will have 14 episodes and will debut some time in 2018, according to Amazon.
The Costume Quest series, based on the video game of the same name, will be for 6 to 12 year olds. The show will star four young kids facing off against strange, dark forces that hide in the shadows of their small town of Auburn Pines. To overcome the hidden forces and achieve their goals, they have to work together and use magical powers of supernatural costumes they come across. Each costume comes with new powers and new transformation abilities, but also new responsibilities. An episode count for the first season hasn’t been revealed yet, but it too will debut some time in 2018.
Tara Sorensen, Amazon’s Head of Kids Programming, said “The creative talent behind Pete the Cat and Costume Quest have a sensibility and pedigree that will resonate well with our customers. We are thrilled to be working with such innovative and visionary thinkers in the business.”
Both of these shows will be a part of Amazon’s “Instant Video” service, which is free to all Amazon Prime subscribers.
