The newest Star Trek mission is official under way. While it was announced all the way back in 2015, production has finally begun on a series titled Star Trek: Discovery, a show that’s a CBS All-Access original – and CBS has given fans a sneak peek (which you can watch below).
Discovery will feature a new ship, new characters, and new missions to explore, while holding on to the same idea that caught the attention of America for more than 50 years. The cast includes names like Anthony Rapp, Doug Jones, Sonequa Martin-Green, Chris Obi, Shazad Latif, Michelle Yeoh, and Mary Chieffo.
Star Trek: Discovery will premiere in May of 2017. The first episode will air on CBS, with all additional episodes streaming on CBS All Access. The series will be simultaneously distributed by CBS Studios International through Netflix in 188 countries around the globe.
For Star Trek fans, CBS All Access is the perfect fit. The streaming service is already the home of all previous Star Trek shows, meaning every single episode from every franchise will be available for streaming.
The original Star Trek show debuted in 1966, and ran for only three seasons. But six different shows and 13 feature films later, it’s a franchise that sill captivates fans young and old. Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2016, it’s become one of the most successful entertainment franchises of all time, relevant even today.
Alex Kurtzman will be the show’s executive producer (he co-wrote and produced the 2009 Star Trek and 2013 Star Trek Into Darkness films).
