Roku adds channel guide and expands to over 100 free channels

While they’re much more well known for their streaming devices, Roku took a step up as a streaming platform this week and staked their place in the ongoing battle.

Roku expanded their free channel lineup yesterday with the addition of 40 new free channels and an on-screen guide. So not only are users getting free channels, the no cost content is much easier to watch.

There’s no ability to set reminders for content, but the guide does advance for 12 hours to give users a good glimpse at what’s coming up. To watch, just head to the “Live TV” tile at the top of your Roku app. Once you’re there, press the left button to bring up the guide.

The channel additions actually have a nice variety, including news stations, kids channels, lifestyle and sports content. Six Spanish channels are also being added.

Since debuting their free TV and movie hub in 2017, Roku has been expanding rapidly. And instead of competing directly, they’re actually working with services like Pluto TV and XUMO.

Today, Roku has more than 100,000 free titles in its catalog, making it a top choice for cord-cutters.
