Ronja, The Robber’s Daughter Trailer Promises Animated Adventure

Amazon Prime will add a major jewel to its crown later this month with the addition of Ronja, the Robber’s Daughter to its streaming catalog. The animated series hails from Hayao Miyazaki’s legendary anime company, Studio Ghibli. For those not in the know, Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli have produced some of the most amazing anime films of all time, including Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, and Howl’s Moving Castle. Ronja looks to have all the magic and sense of fun we’ve come to expect from Studio Ghibli.

Ronja follows a 10-year-old girl who is, as you might have guessed, the daughter of a thief. She spends her days having adventures in the woods near her home, where she also befriends the son of her father’s most bitter rival. The show is actually based on a children’s book written by Astrid Lindgren, who is best known as the creator of Pippi Longstocking. Here’s the trailer for Amazon’s Ronja, The Robber’s Daughter.

The series was directed by Gor? Miyazaki (Tales from Earthsea) and narrated by a very familiar voice: The X-Files‘ Gillian Anderson. Here’s the official description of the show.

Ronja, the Robber’s Daughter is an epic 26-part story of 10-year-old Ronja (Teresa Gallagher), born on a stormy night in a mountain fort, surrounded by her father (Rufus Hound), mother (Morwenna Banks) and a loving band of robbers. She grows to be a strong girl, and discovers that the forest is both a beautiful and frightening place inhabited by strange creatures. She befriends Birk (Kelly Adams), the son of her father’s rival, and so begins the drama of her friendship and family loyalties. Viewers follow along as she explores and understands these key factors in her life, and discovers that seemingly irresolvable choices can finally be made with the help of love and understanding.

Ronja, the Robber’s Daughter will premiere on Amazon Prime on Friday, January 27.
