Season 5 of Netflix’s ‘House of Cards’ Looks to Be Darkest Yet

Netflix released the first official trailer for the anxiously-awaited season five of House of Cards, and fans and critics alike are already buzzing with excitement. The trailer shows season five to pick up right where the fourth season left off with its shocking ending. In the trailer, President Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) growls “The American people don’t know what’s best for them – I do. I know exactly what they need. One nation. Underwood.” As Spacey’s ominous monologue continues, the trailer juxtaposes scenes of tense counter-terrorism standoffs and angry shouting matches on the floor of Congress.

House of Cards was Netflix’s first foray into the world of original content, and the success of the series can be said to have largely created the creative environment that has led to many of Netflix’s acclaimed original series. House of Cards is a no-holds-barred political drama full of palace intrigue, backstabbing, and a realistic look at the Washington, D.C. culture of closed-door negotiations that occasionally stray into blackmailing and illegal activity.

Kevin Spacey stars as Frank Underwood, a Democratic senator from South Carolina who eventually rises to become President of the United States through not-always-entirely-honest means. Robin Wright co-stars as the power-hungry Claire Underwood, First Lady of the United States and accomplished philanthropist. Both Wright and Spacey have won Golden Globe awards for Best Actress and Best Actor, respectively.
Season five of House of Cards will be available on Netflix starting May 30th. Plenty of time to binge the other four seasons if you need to catch up.
