If you’re a Sling TV subscriber, you likely noticed your channel listing was a little bigger recently. That’s because Sling made a couple of changes, beefing up their weather content and offering extra family content in their premium tier.
WeatherNation, which provides 24/7 breaking weather updates, hyper local weather, local and national radar maps, and around the clock weather information, is joining the News Extra tier (which includes The Blaze, HLN, BBC World News and more), which Sling Orange and Sling Blue subscribers can add for just $5 a month. Even better though, is the fact that these customers get a free 6 month preview of WeatherNation.
On the family front, Showtime Family Zone is being added as a premium offering. The network “features wholesome films and specials the entire family will love, from kid-approved animated adventures like ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’ to family-friendly dramas like ‘Akeelah and the Bee.'” While Showtime may be known for content that’s not exactly family friendly, there’s absolutely no R-rated content on this network.
Family Zone is included in the $10 a month Showtime Premium package, which has the original Showtime and Showtime 2, plus Showtime West, Showtime Showcase (first run movies plus original made for TV films originally produced for Showtime), Showtime Extreme (action and adventure films, thrillers, gangster movies and live sporting events including MMA and boxing), Showtime Women (original series and specials geared towards a female audience) and Showtime Next (movies geared towards adults between 18 and 34 years old).
The addition of Family Zone makes the Showtime bundle a pretty attractive add-on at just $10 a month – less than a single movie ticket in most places.
As streaming services like Sling add more cable mainstays like Showtime networks and local weather, it only becomes more and more attractive to cut cable. And with the rock bottom prices they’re able to offer, it’s quickly becoming a no brainer for many people.
