Sling TV customers lose NFL Network and RedZone

While the actual NFL season (if there is one) is still several months away, Sling TV sports fans are losing what little bit of pro football content they had.

As of 9 p.m. Thursday, June 18, both the NFL Network and RedZone channels disappeared from the Sling TV lineup. The reason? Failed negotiations between the two companies.

Right now, of course, that only means that customers miss out on shows like Good Morning Football, NFL Total Access and NFL Now and Player’s Choice. But should the impasse carry over to regular season (still in limbo at the moment), this becomes a much bigger deal as subscribers will miss actual games.

NFL Network is the only place people can watch every live out-of-market game plus every preseason game, so it’s a pretty popular channel to have for sports fans. You have to imagine that if the lockout carries over, some fans will drop the service.

As is common in these carriage squabbles, the two sides each blame the other. The NFL released a statement saying they “offered terms consistent with those in place with other distributors.”

For the time being, the two sides have a little over seven weeks to come to an agreement.
