When Sling TV offered their first pay per view event last month, many people speculated that they were gearing up to offer the Mayweather-McGregor megafight, and that the first offering was merely a trial run of sorts.
Those suspicious became founded today as Sling announced they will indeed offer the highly anticipated bout as a pay per view event. The fight, which will happen on Saturday, Aug. 26 at 9 p.m. ET, is available for pre order now – but it’s certainly not coming cheap.
New and existing Sling customers can order the right for $99.99 plus tax from now until the beginning of the match. Both English and Spanish broadcasts will be available, and viewers will be able to pause, rewind, and fast forward the match just like they would with any other Sling content. And if it turns out to be a fight for the ages that’s worth watching again, it will be available for six days after the event.
To place an order for the bout, all existing customers need to do is log in to their sling.com account and click the banner for the fight. New subscribers will need to create a Sling account before they can see the banner.
After customers make a purchase, they’ll see two new channels appear at the beginning of their channel guide: one for the English broadcast, and one for the Spanish broadcast. Both of those channels will go live as soon as coverage of the event begins.
Regardless of how unmatched this fight may seem, the buildup has been absolutely incredible. A lot of experts feel like it’s going to be one of the most watched boxing matches of all time, which probably explains Sling’s sudden interest in pay per views.
Given that so many people have cut cable these days and only rely on streaming television, Sling offering the Mayweather-McCregor match is nothing but good news.
