Star-studded mobile phone version of ‘The Princess Bride’ heads to Quibi for charity

Another iconic 80s movie is getting a modern reboot. Well, sort of.

A homemade version of “The Princess Bride” filmed with mobile phones and shot socially-distanced is headed to Quibi. If that sounds a little strange, that’s okay because it’s meant to be.

Like most of Quibi’s content, the film carries a strong cast. Playing roles in the movie are Joe Jonas, Tiffany Haddish, Rainn Wilson, Adam Sandler, Common, Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Garner, Elijah Wood, Sophie Turner, Taika Waititi, Jon Hamm, Beanie Feldstein, Lucas Hedges, Jenna Ortega, Jack Black, David Oyelowo, Keegan-Michael Key, Patton Oswalt, Josh Gad and Diego Luna among others. And without spoiling too much, I’ll say a few of these actors don’t play the roles you expect them to.

Each actor filmed their lines at their homes with homemade costumes, so you won’t see two characters on screen at the same time.

And true to Quibi’s style, the film is being released in 10-minute chapters over the next few weeks.

The project is directed by Jason Reitman (son of director Ivan Reitman and director of films like Juno and the upcoming Ghostbusters sequel) and was designed to raise money for charity. $1 million was raised for World Central Kitchen, a charity that feeds those hardest hit by COVID-19.
