If you missed the beginning of the hit show The Walking Dead, here’s your chance to catch up for free, along with a lot of other AMC content.
Starting May 1, four new channels are coming to the free streaming service Pluto TV. There’s:
- Stories by AMC (which will air The Walking Dead, Ride, The Making of the Mob, Into the Badlands, Fear the Walking Dead, Preacher, Comic Book Men and more)
- All Reality WE tv (airing shows like My Fair Wedding, Hustle & Soul, Tamar & Vince, Kendra on Top, John Edward Cross Country, and LA Hair)
- Slightly Off from IFC (shows including Brockmire, Portlandia, Sherman’s Showcase and Comedy Bang! Bang!)
- Walking Dead en Español (Spanish dubbed versions of The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead)
This is the first venture into AVOD (ad-based video on demand that’s usually free) for AMC, and the agreement between the two parties makes the ViacomCBS-owned Pluto TV the exclusive free ad-supported streamer for their content.
Important to note here though is that this deal only covers older seasons of some shows (seasons 1-5 of The Walking Dead and 1-3 of Fear the Walking Dead), so if you want to stream newer episodes, you’ll have to turn to other, paid platforms. Most of the other shows should have their full runs available.
While Pluto TV is of course, happy to have the content, this is likely a more calculated move by AMC to claim a spot in the fast-growing ad-supported market. That’s where consumer are turning their eyes, so it’s of course where the content providers want to be.
