Tim Roth will head from the U.K. to the Rocky Mountains in the new British crime series Tin Star, and Amazon Prime will have the exclusive U.S. streaming rights.
Created by Rowan Joffe (28 Weeks Later), Tin Star is set to debut on the U.K.’s Sky Atlantic channel later this year, after which it will join the Prime streaming catalog here in the U.S. Roth will play a British cop named Jim Worth, who moves to the Rocky Mountain region in order to make a new start for himself and his family. He finds a job as police chief in a small town, but his new life soon proves to be…well, rocky. He’s soon butting heads with an oil company that has a stake in the region, including Mad Men alum Christina Hendricks as a lobbyist for the firm. It all comes together to play out as “a revenge plotline that plays out over the ten parts,” according to Variety.
Brad Beale, Amazon’s vice president, worldwide TV content acquisition, told Variety:
We are thrilled to be adding Tin Star to Prime Video in the U.S. this fall. We believe that the show’s intriguing story, coupled with a world-class cast, will resonate with our Prime members in the U.S.
While Roth has regularly alternated between film and television over the course of his long career, Tin Star will be the first time — not counting a couple of miniseries — where he’s played the lead in a TV show since Lie to Me, which ran form 2009 – 2011 on Fox. He also recently appeared in Showtimes Twin Peaks revival.
The description of Tin Star sounds like it might have a bit of a Longmire vibe to it. That series, which debuted ran on A&E for three seasons before moving to Netflix beginning with its fourth. It stars Robert Taylor as Walt Longmire, the sheriff of the fictional Absaroka County who often finds himself caught between his duty, the needs of those he’s sworn to protect, and the machinations of powerful people. Hopefully Tin Star‘s fortunes will prove as durable when it hits Amazon Prime this fall.
