In partnership with TV Azteca, one of world’s largest Spanish language television production companies, the free streaming service Tubi is headed to Mexico.
The agreement will bring some of Mexico’s top television franchises to the streaming platform, with several TV Azteca shows being free for the first time, including MasterChef Mexico, Enamorándonos, and Exatlón Mexico. Also advertising for Tubi will be headed to TV Azteca’s broadcast and digital outlets.
Television maker Hisense will place Tubi on its Vidaa platform (the exclusive connected TV partner in Mexico) and preload the app on all televisions, as well as place ads on Vidaa’s web site and list Tubi content in the “Vidaa Free” section. Customers will even see Tubi advertising in retail stores and product packaging in 2021.
Guy Edri, the executive VP of business development for Hisense’s Vidaa platform said the deal would give users “access to the best free content locally in every market and from all over the world. The vast library of amazing content,” he added, “is a great addition to our platform and will be a great benefit to consumers in Mexico. They will provide hours of high-quality entertainment in their language to buyers of Hisense TVs and will be completely free, which is a unique proposition not only in Mexico, but also globally.”
This announcement comes as Tubi also plans to expand to the UK market later this year and after a year of accelerated growth for the service, including a content deal with NBCUniversal. Along with other free streaming services like STIRR, Crackle, and Pluto, it’s clear that you don’t have to spend a lot (or, well, anything) for quality content.
