Tubi Signs Massive Deal with NBCUniversal to Stream Classic TV Series

Tubi, one of the fastest-growing newcomers to the streaming scene, has just penned an agreement with NBCUniversal that will see hundreds of television episodes and movies stream for the first time. Tubi and NBCUniversal signed the deal last week, and the agreement is sure to boost the streaming service’s strategy of billing itself as a free alternative to Netflix and other market leaders. Does Tubi have it what it takes in light of this deal?

We’ll have to wait and see. While Tubi may not have the name recognition bigger services enjoy, it does boast one of the widest distributions of any free, ad-supported video on demand (AVOD) service. The free service can be found on over 20 major streaming platforms and internet-enabled devices including iOS, Android, Comcast Xfinity X1, Roku and Amazon Fire TV.

Tubi’s new deal includes some the most iconic television series ever made. Some of the new titles now available for streaming include series such as Xena: Warrior Princess, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, The A-Team, Punky Brewster, The Incredible Hulk, Quantum Leap, and Magnum, P.I., Battlestar Galactica (1978), Bionic Woman, and She-Ra: Princess of Power.

“We’re excited to be a home to this robust library of world-class, iconic content from NBCUniversal that appeals across generations,” said Adam Lewinson, Tubi’s Chief Content Officer. “We are aggressively working to expand our library, and this is one of many deals to come for Tubi.” In the same press release, Tubi suggests that it expects its already massive content library of over 12,000 movies and television series to continue to expand throughout the year at an “accelerated pace.” Already, Tubi’s library is over twice the size of Netflix’s.

While Tubi hasn’t yet publicly disclosed how many users it has, the company did announce record growth in 2018 and expanded its content library by 4.3 times. In December 2018 alone, the company reported, users streamed as much content as they did in all of 2017.

Tubi can be streamed free on most major streaming platforms. For more information visit www.tubi.tv.
