Twitter has launched a dedicated Apple TV app that’s going to let users stream live video, including Thursday Night Football NFL games.
Twitter signed a deal with the NFL earlier this year to stream all Thursday night games, excluding the season opener. The service premiers Thursday, Sept. 15.
But there’s more than just NFL content on the app. Twitter is also offering live streams of videos from MLB Advanced Media, NBA, Pac 12 Networks, Campus Insiders, Cheddar and Bloomberg News.
“These devices will bring Twitter’s live streaming video experience to life on the TV screen,” said Anthony Noto, chief financial officer at Twitter. “Twitter has always been a great complement to TV, and now fans can enjoy even more premium video with live Tweets — and the best content on Twitter — right from their TVs. We’re excited to introduce this new experience to people, without requiring a paywall or having to log in to Twitter.”
The app is expected to make its way to Amazon Fire TV and Xbox One, but only Apple TV users are gaining exclusive access to premium live videos, including the NFL coverage.
As expected, the app is a free download.
