In a move to bolster the social network as a go-to source for news and entertainment Twitter has inked a deal to stream CBS News’ 2016 Republican and Democratic National Convention coverage.
Twitter is expected to use live tweets to enhance its coverage of the presidential nomination process while streaming video from CBSN, the broadcast network’s streaming service.
It’s the second major streaming deal Twitter has nailed down after agreeing with the NFL to stream Thursday night football games. The social network also streamed parts of the Wimbledon tennis tournament earlier this month.
“Twitter is the fastest way to find out what’s happening in politics and to have a discussion about it,” Twitter Chief Financial Officer Anthony Noto said in a statement. “We believe we’re giving people around the world the best way to experience democracy in action.”
CNBC reported that both Democrats and Republicans plan to use Twitter to expand the experience of the conventions.
