YouTube offers their original shows for free during quarantines

YouTube is well known to virtually any internet user as a video website, but a lot of consumers aren’t aware they dabble in content production too. In an effort to drive subscriptions about a year ago, the company made several original TV shows and made them a part of a premium subscription plan.

Most of the content never quite caught on though, so if you missed these shows, you’re not alone. You have a chance to check out the programming now however because as a part of their “#StayAtHome” initiative to keep people inside, the company is offering up their original shows for completely free.

Free content includes seasons 1 through 4 of Escape the Night, seasons 1 and 2 of Me and My Grandma, seasons 1 and 2 of Step Up: High Water, seasons 1 and 2 of Impulse, seasons 1 and 2 of Foursome,, Sideswiped, Matpat’s Game Lab, The Fake Show, Overthinking with Kat & June, and Re:Set.

Previously, these shows were only accessible if you were a YouTube Premium or YouTube TV subscriber.

YouTube is also releasing some kids content for free – shows like We Are Savvy, Fruit Ninja Frenzy Force, Kings of Atlantis and Hyperlinked.

By offering free content, YouTube joins a long list of streaming companies doing the same thing at the moment. Amazon is offering free kids content, the NBA, and the NFL both made their streaming services free, Sling TV and PBS rolled out free shows, and Hulu did the same.
