There are a number of variables to consider when choosing a HDTV antenna to watch over-the-air broadcasts. Where you live in relation to transmission towers, potential signal obstructions like buildings and mountains; all of this can impact your television reception. One thing that many people tend to overlook when choosing an OTA antenna is whether the antenna can receive channels broadcast in the VHF (Very High Frequency) band.

Unfortunately, a vast majority of the OTA antennas on the market have a poor track record of VHF compatibility. Granted, this is due to the fact that the majority of OTA broadcasts in the United States are in the UHF (Ultra High Frequency) band. However there are usually a few in the VHF band. This means that if you want to get the most bang for your buck when buying an OTA antenna, you’re going to want to look for one that can pull both UHF and VHF channels. Fortunately, the Mohu Leaf Glide does just that.

Mohu Leaf Glide Range & Signal Strength

The Mohu Leaf Glide boasts a 65-mile range. This is a significant improvement over the original Mohu Leaf, which only had a 30-mile range. The Mohu Leaf Glide achieves this by using a powered amplifier. This amplifier boosts the signal received by the Glide to ensure uninterrupted, high quality.

Mohu Leaf Glide Installation

Much like its predecessor, the Mohu Leaf Glide is very easy to install. The Mohu Leaf Glide is larger than the original Mohu Leaf, measuring 21.5 inches by 11.5 inches. Despite the increase in size, the antenna retains the familiar flat design that makes them unobtrusive and aesthetically pleasing. Additionally, Mohu has made the Leaf Glide super easy to install. The entire process only takes a couple of minutes, so you can rest assured that you’ll be watching free high definition TV in no time!

The Mohu Leaf Glide is meant to be attached to a wall or a window. When considering placement, remember that you’ll want to pick a spot that  facing the direction of your local OTA broadcast towers. Mohu supplies Velcro pads and push pins to assist in mounting the Leaf Glide antenna.

Once you have secured the antenna to a window or wall, simply attach the inline amplifier and connect the 16-foot coaxial cable that comes with the unit to your TV. Finally, switch the input of your TV to the antenna input and scan for channels.

Be aware that signal reception is largely dependent on your location. Consult a website like in order to determine OTA transmission tower locations in relation to your house. This will help in identifying ideal antenna placement within your home.

Mohu Leaf Glide Cost

The Mohu Leaf Glide is one of the more expensive flat indoor antennas on the market. At the time of this writing, the Mohu Leaf Glide currently retails for $89.99. Despite the high price tag, the Mohu Leaf Glide has a significant advantage over some of the cheaper flat antennas. It includes a built-in amplifier that enhances reception. This signal boosting technology not only improves the clarity of channels in the UHF range, but it also enables users to receive channels in the VHF range. Most indoor antennas on the market can only receive broadcasts in the UHF range, so the ability to receive these extra channels is worth the added cost.

Mohu Leaf Glide Reviews from Real Customers

How do other customers rate the Mohu Leaf Glide?

Overall, Mohu Leaf Glide reviews are decent but not great. On Amazon, the product scores around 3/5 stars.

Several reviewers complain about poor signal strength and mention that they didn’t get the channels they were expecting. Unfortunately this is common with all antennas – the channels you get will really vary depending on where you live and how close the nearest broadcasting station is.

Bottom Line

The Mohu Leaf Glide is a worthy successor to the original Mohu Leaf HD antenna. With the included amplifier and signal boosting technology, the Leaf Glide offers superior performance compared to other indoor antennas. It is capable of receiving the highly sought after VHF broadcasts, something that other indoor antennas often struggle with.

Despite better performance, there are a couple of things that you’ll need to consider before you open up your wallet. The Mohu Leaf Glide is more expensive than other indoor HD antennas. However this one time coast is offset by having the ability to pull in more free OTA broadcasts. Furthermore, the Mohu Leaf Glide is quite large. Measuring 21.5 inches by 11.5 inches, the Leaf Glide is almost twice the size of the original Mohu Leaf. While the flat design of the antenna mitigates this problem to a certain extent, it’s still a bit of an eyesore. That being said, the Leaf Glide is paintable, so you can paint it the same color as your wall to help disguise it.

Overall, the Mohu Leaf Glide is an improvement over previous indoor antenna models from Mohu. However the increased size and cost will be a turn off for some. If you are considering purchasing the Mohu Leaf Glide, we recommend that you determine which channels you can receive based on your location. If some of the channels you want are broadcast in VHF then the Leaf Glide is a solid bet.
