How to watch Parasite

Best way to watch Parasite (2019)

Black comedy and international cinema fans, step right this way. The South Korean hit Parasite is now available to stream. So where to watch Parasite? Well, Hulu is our number one choice — not just because it’s the only streaming service to currently house the title, but because it gives subscribers so many options. With prices starting from $5.99/mo., it won’t break the bank, either.

All the ways to watch Parasite online

Directed by Bong Joon-ho, award-winning Parasite dominated the 2020 Academy Awards, winning four Oscars. It also became the first non-English language film to win the Oscar for Best Picture, cementing its place in cinema history. The story of a poor South Korean family who cleverly infiltrates a much wealthier one, Parasite is a dark yet comedic look at class conflict and the wealth gap.

Right now, on-demand and live TV streaming giant Hulu is the only service to offer a Parasite stream for online viewing. Although it doesn’t appear on any other platform, being able to watch it online does mean you can watch it at any time, rather than having to wait until a cable network decides to broadcast it. Parasite even broke Hulu records by becoming the most-streamed independent or foreign language film on the platform within a week and the second most-watched movie ever to appear on the service.

Here’s all the cost information related to Parasite streaming.

Streaming Parasite

Streaming Parasite allows you to watch the film on your own terms. You can also watch the film as many times as you want as long as Hulu still offers it.

Hulu

There are two strings to Hulu’s bow: an on-demand catalog and a live TV section. The former includes more than 2,500 titles, from original shows to more blockbuster movies like Parasite. If you’re looking for more international movies, try French drama Portrait of a Lady on Fire or the Swedish comedy-drama, Force Majeure. There are lots more black comedies to whet your appetite, too, from the classic Heathers to the contemporary Sorry to Bother You. Hulu’s live TV schedule, on the other hand, features more than 65 major networks, including Bravo, CBS and CNN.

The price differs greatly for the on-demand and live TV packages. Hulu charges $5.99/mo. to those who only want to watch on-demand content. For live TV (plus on-demand), the price shoots up to $54.99/mo. You can choose to upgrade packages by paying for various add-ons, whether that’s removing commercials or upping your DVR storage space. On that note, Hulu live TV users receive 50 hours of recording space. They can also watch content on two devices at the same time and can create up to six user profiles for personalized recommendations.

Renting vs. buying Parasite

Buying Parasite outright is a great idea if you love the film and always want to have it available. Renting is a better option if you just want to have a movie night and won’t take advantage of the other content Hulu offers.

Amazon Prime Video

When you’re not online shopping via Amazon, you can check out Amazon Prime Video. As well as being a streaming service, it’s also a place to rent and buy movies and TV shows. When it comes to Parasite, you have both options. Renting the movie in standard definition (SD) or high definition (HD) will cost you $3.99. It’ll remain in your library for 30 days, but once you hit play, you’ll have 48 hours to finish watching. Alternatively, you can permanently own Parasite in SD or HD for $14.99.

FandangoNOW

FandangoNOW is one of the lesser-known rental and purchase platforms around. But it often manages to get hold of movies way before the likes of Hulu and Netflix. However, its rental fees can be a little pricier than competitor sites. Parasite, for example, will cost you $5.99 to rent and $9.99 to buy in SD, HD or 4K.

Google Play

The equivalent of iTunes for Android users, Google Play also offers Parasite in 4K. You’ll be charged $3.99 to rent the movie or the special price of $9.99 to buy it. Don’t worry if your device doesn’t support 4K. The movie will play in the highest definition available.

iTunes

iTunes — the home of Apple’s music and TV purchasing platform — also has Parasite available for renting or buying. The prices are the same as Amazon Prime Video: $3.99 for a rental or $14.99 for a purchase. If you buy, you can download the movie to any PC or Apple device and share with other Apple users in your family for free.

Microsoft Store

No matter which definition you want to play Parasite, you’ll be charged the same via Microsoft Store. The price is $3.99 for rentals and $9.99 for purchases. Microsoft’s store also contains ad-free TV shows the day after they air on regular TV along with full seasons and the latest hit movies.

Vudu

Vudu’s Parasite prices are also identical to Amazon Prime Video and iTunes. To rent, you’ll pay $3.99. To buy, you’ll be charged $14.99. As well as offering both new and old titles to own or rent, Vudu also has free, ad-supported content to watch.

YouTube

You may associate YouTube with funny videos, but don’t underestimate its ability to provide any content you need — for a price, of course. You can view Parasite in the highest definition there is, ultra HD, via YouTube. Renting will, again, cost $3.99 and a purchase costs $14.99.

Our hot take

While you don’t have a huge choice when it comes to streaming Parasite online, you’re lucky it’s featured on Hulu. The ability to choose between a lower-priced on-demand service and an impressive live TV line-up and the fact you can personalize your subscription through premium add-ons make Hulu a top-notch streaming platform. But it may not have the rights to stream Parasite forever. So if you don’t want to miss out on Bong Joon-ho’s masterpiece, sign up for a 30-day free trial of Hulu on-demand or a seven-day trial of the live TV plan.
