YouTube TV channel list

In spite of being a newcomer to the live TV streaming scene, YouTube TV is quickly catching up to the competition with attractive features and an extensive channel lineup. Not surprisingly, the streaming service has managed to capture the attention of cord-cutters as a reliable alternative to cable as it offers live access to breaking news and local sports.

But before you decide to subscribe, you’ll want to get the full YouTube TV channel list so you can compare it with the offerings of its competitor streaming services. This post will help you figure out exactly what you get with your YouTube TV subscription and what you’re signing up for.

What is YouTube TV?

YouTube TV is an over-the-top TV streaming service from Google, which offers live and on-demand content from 85+ channels. As it offers the same kind of programming as cable or satellite with the added convenience of online streaming, there’s a good reason it appeals to cord-cutters. Plus, since there’s no annual contract, you have the freedom to cancel your subscription at any time.

With your YouTube TV subscription, you can watch breaking news and live broadcasts of national and local sporting events. It even lets you watch the latest episodes of your favorite TV series the moment they air. Your YouTube TV subscription also comes with access to movies and shows on-demand from major networks, allowing you to stream them at your convenience.

As for location-specific programming, YouTube TV makes local and regional networks accessible for more than 98% of U.S. TV households. The best part is that you no longer have to risk missing an important live broadcast just because a roommate or family member wants to watch something else. YouTube TV lets you share your account with up to six people and stream from up to three devices at a time.

In case you do have to miss important live programming due to your hectic schedule, you can record using YouTube TV’s cloud DVR. YouTube TV is one of the few live TV streaming services that provide unlimited cloud DVR storage, so you have the freedom to record as many shows as you want to and keep them for up to nine months.

And you get all this for $64.99/mo. Although this may seem a bit steep, it still costs less than leading competitors like AT&T TV Now and Hulu + Live TV. And to top it off, the YouTube TV channel list is more extensive than what these other services offer. In addition, you’ll get plenty of add-ons and unlimited cloud DVR. There aren’t any bundle offers. To learn more about everything YouTube TV has to offer, visit our YouTube TV review.

For kids and family networks:

Not to mention an abundance of kid-friendly movies and shows on demand from other networks. Plus, you can tune into hundreds of informative wildlife and environmental documentaries through Animal Planet, Discovery Channel and Nat Geo Wild.

YouTube TV add-on channels

With customizability being among its main appeal, YouTube TV offers several standalone channels that you can add to your plan. So instead of getting an entire package with a bunch of channels you don’t need, you get to choose the most important ones individually.

Besides these channels, YouTube TV also gives you access to a handful of standalone subscription streaming services as add-on options. While you can get these services separately, adding them to your YouTube TV subscription allows you to manage all your streaming plans in one place.

Acorn TV

If you love British television, you might want to consider getting the Acorn TV add-on for $6/mo. Acorn TV is a subscription streaming service that lets you watch gripping dramas, thrilling mysteries and witty comedies from the UK. It also offers world-class content from other regions including, Australia, Canada, Ireland, Mexico, New Zealand and Spain.

AMC Premiere

For an extra $5/mo. you can also add premium channels like AMC Premiere to your YouTube TV plan. This add-on lets you watch currently-airing shows and full seasons of your favorite TV series without ads. Some of the most popular titles on the channel include A Discovery of Witches, Killing Eve, Fear the Walking Dead, The Walking Dead and Unspeakable.

CuriosityStream

This streaming service expansion has a special focus on documentaries, giving you access to thousands of shows about history, lifestyle, nature, science, society and technology. You can use this add-on to watch shows like A Day in the Life of Earth, A Stitch in Time, Leaps in Evolution and more.

EPIX

For movie buffs, the EPIX premium channel add-on is an excellent option at $6/mo. You can use this add-on to stream the latest box office hits and standup specials as well as well-loved classic titles. Plus, you get access to a bunch of popular EPIX originals, including Belgravia, Godfather of Harlem, Pennyworth, Slow Burn and War of the Worlds.

FOX Soccer Plus

An extra $15/mo. will give you access to FOX Soccer Plus, a dedicated channel for soccer and rugby. For soccer fans, this add-on makes a lot of sense, especially if the existing lineup of YouTube TV sports channels doesn’t meet your needs. Use this add-on to stream some of the biggest international soccer events, such as the UEFA Champions League.

NBA League Pass

NBA League Pass may be a standalone streaming service, but you can also add it to your YouTube TV subscription for an extra $40/mo. This gives you live access to hundreds of out-of-market games that you won’t get on NBA TV or other regional sports channels because of your location.

Adding it to your YouTube TV plan makes sense because blackout restrictions apply with the standalone NBA League Pass, meaning you won’t have access to certain live local games and national broadcasts. But the national and regional sports networks on YouTube TV will make up for that restriction. Visit our NBA League Pass review to learn more.

SHOWTIME

SHOWTIME is another premium network you might want to add to your YouTube TV plan. While a standalone subscription to the channel costs $10.99/mo., you can get it with YouTube TV for an extra $7/mo. This add-on gives you access to iconic movies like Bridget Jones’ Diary, Mean Girls, Sleepless in Seattle and Superbad.

You also get access to informative documentaries, sports shows and standup specials. But the biggest highlight is the lineup of hit originals such as Billions, Homeland, Penny Dreadful: City of Angels and Shameless. Visit our SHOWTIME review or find out more ways to watch SHOWTIME content.

Shudder

Horror aficionados will love the Shudder add-on, which costs an additional $5/mo. This add-on service comes with an extensive collection of horror and thriller content from some of the biggest names in the industry. Get access to iconic and critically-acclaimed titles such as Halloween, Night of the Living Dead, Oldboy, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and Train to Busan. Visit our Shudder review to learn more.

STARZ

You can also add premium channels like STARZ to your YouTube TV subscription for an additional $9/mo. Home to exclusive originals and hit movies, STARZ lets you stream popular shows such as Hightown, Luther, The Bernie Mac Show and The Spanish Princess. You can also watch classic movies and recent releases, including 500 Days of Summer, Forrest Gump, Venom and Zombieland: Double Tap. Visit our STARZ review or find out more ways to watch STARZ content.

Sundance Now

Fans of crime drama and thriller series might want to consider getting the Sundance Now add-on for $7/mo. This expansion lets you watch riveting true crime shows like Cold Blooded: The Clutter Family Murders, Jonestown: Terror in the Jungle and Killing for Love. Plus, it has a decent collection of original shows such as A Discovery of Witches, Riviera and The Split. Visit our Sundance Now review to learn more.

UMC

You can also get the Urban Movie Channel (UMC) add-on for an extra $5/mo. and stream hundreds of movies and stand-up shows. The service features urban-themed movies and shows in a variety of categories including action and thriller, comedy, drama, documentary, music and culture, romance and stageplay.

What about YouTube TV premium channels?

YouTube TV offers several premium channels as add-ons to your regular plan, though its offering may not be as comprehensive as that of other services. For instance, premium channels like CBS All Access, Cinemax and HBO are missing from the list of YouTube TV add-ons. But you can still get the following premium channels with your subscription (as discussed above):

  • AMC Premiere
  • EPIX
  • SHOWTIME
  • STARZ

What about YouTube TV local channels?

YouTube TV provides a fair number of local channels, though its lineup may not be as extensive as that of Hulu + Live TV. In most markets, the service gives you access to live broadcasts of local news and sporting events from ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC and PBS. But you’ll have to check the specific list of YouTube TV channels in your area before you decide to sign up.

Like most streaming services, the YouTube TV local channels list varies by location. For example, someone living in the Los Angeles area will have access to local channels such as ABC 7, CBS 2, FOX 11, KCAL 9 and Telemundo 52 among a few others. On the other hand, an Orlando resident will get CW 18, FOX 35, Telemundo Orlando and WEDU instead.

Besides this, you also get access to dedicated channels for local and regional sporting teams, if any. An LA resident, for instance, can watch the Los Angeles Football Club through the team’s dedicated channel.
